Beer: The 5 Best Local Breweries in Colorado Springs (and Why!)

0

Let’s talk about beer.

But first? A very brief history lesson.

Did you know, President George Washington had his own brewhouse on the grounds of Mount Vernon?

And in the 1700s, Washington wrote down a recipe for “small beer” in a notebook that he used during the French and Indian War. This recipe required tons of molasses which is not a common ingredient used in beer. Beer is made from natural ingredients, including hops, yeast, barley, and water. These ingredients contain minerals, vitamins, fiber, and polyphenols.

Beer dates back to ancient times when it was an important dietary role (my husband would wholeheartedly agree). I am not so sure I would go as far to say beer is healthy, but it’s not bad!

Fun fact – Hugh Beaver created the Guinness Book of World Records in 1951. He was the executive director of Guinness Brewing Company. He wanted to create an authoritative source that could settle all questions and disputes brought up in brewhouses.

Genius!

I think most of us would agree that local beer is a better beer.

Why? Because local breweries support communities, create jobs, and provide enchanting places to hang out! They also use fresh, quality ingredients served with passion and heart.

Right after water and tea, beer is the most consumed drink globally! It seems like the perfect reason to take a risk and open your brewery. You are creating a space for connection, community, and quality beer.

Allow me to quote the great philosophers who wrote the Cheers theme song:

“Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries
Sure would help a lot.

Wouldn’t you like to getaway?

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.”

(Insert moment of silence for this great show.)
