How I use AI in Motherhood

AI (or Artificial Intelligence) is all the rage these days! Since I work for a small tech company, and figuring out ways to be more efficient when using AI has become such a large part of my profession, I have let it bleed over into how I mother, and boy has it been a game-changer.

I used to spend hours searching Pinterest for all the ideas and things. Now I just ask ChatGPT, and its AI does it for me. Takes seconds! And the best part? IT IS FREE!

Now, I have more time to do what I love: play and read and just be with my kids!

Here are FIVE ways, ChatGPT has changed the way I “mom:”

  1. Meal Planning: I literally can ask ChatGPT to build a meal plan, including a shopping list, and dietary restrictions, and even note how many people we are feeding so we get the right amount of each item on a shopping list. Then I can plug it into my grocery app. One of the most annoying and time-consuming tasks is solved in a few minutes. This can also be applied to fun lunch bento box ideas, no-sugar desserts, healthy after-school lunches, the list goes on and on!
  2. Symptom Checker: Remember when your kid had that random rash and you went down a google bunny hole and ended up scaring yourself half to death?! (Yeah, that’s happened to me a few times, as well.) Now I can ask ChatGPT what a specific combo of symptoms could mean so I am not panicking. Obviously, AI should not take the place of of real medical advice and I am a huge proponent of better safe than sorry, but it’s nice that I don’t assume every fever and rash means my kid has some scary, life-threatening disease.
  3. Travel Planning: “Send me the most affordable travel destinations for a family of 5 and activity ideas for children ages 12, 10 and 7.” Take it a step further, “Send me the most affordable travel destinations for a family of 5 and activity ideas for children ages 12, 10 and 7 within an 8-hour drive of Colorado Springs.” LITERALLY THAT SIMPLE! It will even build an itinerary based on your interests.
  4. Packing Lists: We love to travel, but I hate packing. Like HATE it. So, with ChatGPT, I can tell it the number of nights, number of people, travel destination and whether or not I plan to do laundry and it will spit out the list for me. Then I can hand that list to my kids and guess what? They can pack themselves. It is literally a dream.
  5. Rainy Day Activities: Well, any kind of activity list for that matter. (Summer ideas, easy cooking recipes for kids, etc.) But, gone are the days I pin ideas away on boards that I have to sort back through later. Instead, ChatGPT gives me a list and we can just rock and roll. And you know what else? It gives me the supply list, too, so I can cross off what we have on hand and buy the things we need.

I really don’t know how I “momed” before ChatGPT. I am only one person! The mental load we, as mothers, carry each day can be so overwhelming. I will do anything I can to save time and leaning into AI has done just that.
