Library Living: PPLD’s Summer Adventure

0

Looking for ways to engage your kids all summer long? Look no further than the Pikes Peak Library District’s Summer Adventure! And PPLD knows how to do a summer reading program—this year marks their 50th anniversary! The Summer Adventure program runs from May 31st to July 31st, and you can sign up in person at any PPLD branch, or online.

Who is the Summer Adventure program for?

ANYONE! This year, PPLD has made their Summer Adventure program for all ages! You can track your progress entirely online, download and print your own game card, or pick up a physical game card at any PPLD branch. Kids ages 0-18 will receive an age-appropriate prize for registering and also for completing the Summer Adventure program, as well as an entry into a grand prize drawing. Adults participating will receive multiple entries into the grand prize drawing with registration and completion of the program. If you or your kids want an even bigger challenge, you’ll receive additional entries into the grand prize drawing with every five extra days you complete!

What do you do during the Summer Adventure program?

The goal is to complete 30 days of activities during the Summer Adventure. These activities can be reading, but can also include things like attending an event at the library (there are so many fun ones this summer!), taking a walk around your neighborhood, making a blanket fort, or designing your own Olympic medal. PPLD has a whole list of ideas on their website to get you started! This year, PPLD has events for kids, teens, and adults!

What kind of events do they have at the library?

It depends on your branch, but for kids, you can expect visits from Wishing Star Farm, Turning Pointe Dance, LocoMotion—the Science and Circus Arts Show, and many, many more. For teens, there will be escape rooms, laser tag, and murder mysteries, among other events. And for adults, there are lots of crafting events, as well as Shakespeare performances, and ice cream socials!

What kind of prizes can you win?

For registration, kids will receive a book or journal, depending on age. For completion, kids can receive a bath toy, a medal, or a book or journal, depending on age, as well as an entry into the grand prize drawing. There are many different prizes to be won in the grand prize drawing, including prizes from Roadhouse Cinemas, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, SCHEELS, Skate City, Main Event, Flying W Ranch, and many more! You can see the complete list of prizes at the bottom of the Summer Adventure page
