Fun New Year’s Eve Traditions for the Whole Family

Some of my favorite holiday memories growing up were made while ringing in the new year. It is so fun to share that joy with my kids each year. We have developed several fun New Year’s Eve traditions for our family over the years.

Watching the Ball Drop

Sometimes we turn on the TV and watch the ball drop in Times Square on local channels as we countdown to midnight. Some years we pull up YouTube videos for kids of the New Year’s Eve ball drop. Then we count down with the kids early, and have everyone in asleep in their beds before 9pm.

Sparkling Apple Cider

We always have some form of sparkling drink for the kids. Whether it is Martinelli’s sparkling apple cider, other sparkling juice, or even just sparkling water, we have it. As long is it’s fizzy and of course nonalcoholic, we love to toast to the new year with our little ones. They love the special treat too!

Other Fun New Year’s Eve Traditions for the Whole Family

In past years, we have made time capsules with the cousins at my parents’ house in years past, in which all of the kids filled out an “about me” page to look back on the next years as they grow. One year we armed all of the kids with noise makers and kazoos and let them parade around the house. We have simply put on movies for the kids and enjoyed the family time. We don’t do the same activities every year, but we aim to make each year memorable for our kids.

New Year’s Eve is such a fun time of year. Whether you set intentions for the new year, go all out with a party and decorations, or just stay cozy at home, I hope you enjoy some meaningful family time with your kids.
