Having physical limitations as a mom has been difficult because there are certain tasks for my girls that I’m not able to do. I’m not able to get them dressed or give them a bath. However, what I can do, is help pick out their clothes, or chat with them during bath time. Sadly, I haven’t found any way to assist with diapers… oh darn ;) I have found ways to make feeding them easier, safer ways to carry them, adapted games to play together, and many more tools and ideas that make mom-ing more accessible.

Imagine you’re out to dinner with your family and strangers come up to sympathize with “how hard it must be” for your husband to care for the kids on his own. This is despite that fact that you’re the one who birthed them, and you’re an equally important and active part in their lives. Or imagine a stranger telling your spouse how it’s absolutely astounding that he hasn’t walked out on you yet due to your “problems.”
I admit, I frequently observe with envy. Sometimes living in a fitness-oriented community can be like salt in a wound. You see, I have an autoimmune disease that limits my physical fitness capabilities. Physical fitness had always been part of my life until an illness took it away. Finding the right balance in exercise has been its own journey. One minute too long or one hill too far can set me back with flu-like symptoms for up to two weeks. Going from a year-around athlete to struggling to get out of bed was a huge adjustment.
