Simple Fall Family Traditions

0

My favorite season of the year is fall. I love the crisp, cool air, attending fall festivals, pumpkin everything, and dressing in layers. For me, it feels like time slows down in the fall and all I want to do is make fun memories with my family. Here are some simple fall family traditions that we do every year.

Decorating the House Together

We decorate our house for the fall in September. Real pumpkins, fake pumpkins, homemade pumpkins—they are all in our house! I keep it minimal with small signs placed around and replacing our regular throw pillows and blankets with fall-themed ones. I mix in a little bit of Halloween décor, as well.

Family Movie Nights

On Friday or Saturday nights during the colder months, we like to set out blankets and pillows on the living room floor and watch movies together as a family. We love to get cozy and eat snacks and spend time together as a family.

Baking Fall-Themed Treats Together

As my daughters get older, I involve them more in the kitchen. They love to help me bake pumpkin bread, decorate pumpkin shaped cookies, and make whatever yummy recipes we can find. Even if they don’t help me bake the treats, we enjoy them all together!

Visiting Pumpkin Patches

Every year we try to make it to at least one pumpkin patch or fall festival. We love the games, hayrides, and of course, picking out pumpkins to carve for our front porch.

Our Thankful Pumpkin

We try to find a small pumpkin that fits in the center of our dining table. Every day starting on November 1st, we each write one thing we are grateful for on the pumpkin. We try to do this during dinner time. I love how it gives us things to talk about as we eat dinner as a family. I also love to go back and read our pumpkin on Thanksgiving Day and be reminded of all that we are grateful for. Our thankful pumpkin is one of the simple fall family traditions that we look forward to every year.
