Alphabet Date Night: It Is Worth the Hype!

1

If you are a 30-something mom, finally taking the time to prioritize dating your spouse, then I am sure you have been inundated with social media videos on alphabet date night. I know I have been. We are five letters in and already feel like it is one of the best investments in our marriage we have made.

So, how does alphabet date night work?

Well, it’s just how it’s described; you pick a letter and plan a date night around that letter.

We are lucky enough to have a teenager in the house, so it’s pretty easy for us to find a sitter, but it would be just as easy to plan some “at-home” date nights after the kids go to bed, depending on your family situation.

How do you plan your dates?

Well, at first, we each took a letter. That was fun and even though my partner didn’t feel he did a great job planning, I though his was great. However, for us, we quickly learned that planning alone was creating stress for my him, so we switched it up.

We changed to planning together after the first two letters and now we spend the weeks leading up to date night thinking of all the things we can with that letter until something resonates with us. That has made the anticipation of the date even better, too!

So what have we done so far? Well, I’ll tell you!

Letter A

Axe Throwing at Bad Axe! We dressed up (bad idea, dress comfortably!) but that didn’t stop us from giggling the entire time. It is definitely hard work, though, so be sure to stretch before you go if you are getting a little rusty like me!

Letter B

We went to the bookstore! This time the dressing up was worth it to browse the shelves of Poor Richard’s Bookstore. We had a glass of wine, walked the shelves and even listened to live music. They also have food there, but we were really looking forward to our favorite letter B activity: Bonny & Read Seafood!

Letter C

Cuban at Rumba’s Latin Cuisine with a side of Cosmo’s Magic Show. Obviously Cosmo’s was a stretch with the letter BUT we had been hearing such great things, and we didn’t want to wait until Letter M. Honestly, it was THAT good, we will likely go back again for M since Cosmo offers multiple shows!

Letter D

Dumplings at Yellow Mountain Tea House and then dessert at Pi Bar. We didn’t realize the traditional experience we would have at the tea house, but it was incredible. At Pi Bar, we opted for the sweeter pies since we had already had dumplings, but they have an awesome menu with savory pies, as well!

Letter E

Escape Room! This was pretty far out of our comfort zone, but we had an absolute blast at 21 Keys. We didn’t break out, which we blame on the fact that there was only two of us, but we are ready to try again even if it doesn’t fall under another letter of the alphabet!

Letter F

This one is on deck; we are thinking fondue! Any favorites in town?

I’ll be sure to share again once we are through the alphabet, but be sure to tell us your favorite places in the comments so we can borrow your alphabet date night ideas!

  1. For fondue, I love the Mona Lisa in Manitou! We’ve done the cellar before, which is just under the restaurant. It’s a lot more intimate/quiet. And on weekends, they (or at least they used to) have live music in the cellar!
